Amazing Guitar - Lesson
Harmonizing in Two Octaves

Hi,

Andrew Koblick from Amazing Guitar here.

One of my favorite guitar songs is Blackbird by the Beatles.

In this lesson we will learn the underlying theory which is used to create that sound. First we will see how the major scale is harmonized over two octaves.

What this means that two notes are played together (harmony) but instead of the notes being in the same octave they are in differnt octaves.

An Octave is One full series of eight notes on the musical scale. Do re mi Fa So la ti.

Here is a tab showing the G major scale in the lower octave:

E|------------------------------
B|------------------------------
G|------------------------------
D|------------------------------
A|-----0--2--3--5--7--9--10-----
E|--3---------------------------

Here is the tab adding the third note in the higher Octave:

E|------------------------------
B|--0--1--3--5--7--8--10--12----
G|------------------------------
D|------------------------------
A|-----0--2--3--5--7---9--10----
E|--3---------------------------

Now here is the tab of the scale harmonized:

Note for the 1st, 4th and 5th harmonies we use the fingering in picture #1 major fingering.

Note for the 2nd, 4th and 5th harmonies we use the fingering in picture #1 major fingering.

On this Video I show how to use the harmonies to create the Blackbird sound
Note: The rendition is a rough aproximation used to show the underlying theory.
